Top tips for improving bad breath

The 5 foods to avoid and great tips for improving bad breath.

What foods to have and what to avoid.

Food has an amazing effect on the breath, mainly due to the residues found in it and  the way these residues react with our PH levels in the mouth and body.

For example supermarket orange juice on an empty stomach first thing in the morning, tends to produce a very sour breath due to the high acid and sugar content where as a freshly squeezed orange or grapefruit juice is alkaline , sugar free and much better, Couple this with good quality organic bakers whole meal bread with honey and you will be up and running. The honey is low alkaline and the bread neutralises bad breath due to the natural enzymes found in it and the mild acid content.

The current typical Western diet is largely composed of acid-forming foods (proteins, fats, cereals, sugars). Alkaline-producing foods such as vegetables are eaten in much smaller quantities. Stimulants like tobacco, coffee, tea, and alcohol are also extremely acidifying. Stress, and physical activity (both insufficient or excessive amounts) also cause acidification.

Many foods are alkaline-producing by nature, but manufactured processed foods are mostly acid-producing. It is important to consume at least 60% alkaline-producing foods in our diet, in order to maintain health. We need plenty of fresh fruits and particularly vegetables (alkaline-producing) to balance our necessary protein intake (acid-producing). And we need to avoid processed, sugary or simple-carbohydrate foods, not only because they are acid-producing but also because they raise blood sugar level too quickly (high glycemic index therefore fattening); plus they tend to be nutrient-lacking .

Here are the top 5 to avoid for a healthy breath

Greasy high fat foods such as pizzas, pies
High acid foods such as coffee, coke, Cereals (refined), Chocolate, Flour (white wheat), Pastries and Cakes from White Flour
Alcohol (high in acid and also sugar)
Food containing high levels of bacteria and proteins such as cheese
Supermarket fruit juices with high sugar and acid content

Are we saying don’t eat these types foods? Well I think it may be difficult to stop the population consumingsugar laden fizzy drinks and wolfing pies, however knowing what foods affect the breath and health, can be an advantage when planning your day. For example if you knew you had a meeting at 2pm, then consuming high protein foods for lunch like a egg, beef and cheese roll on white bread followed by a coffee and a sweet cake will be a recipe for disaster, where as having a wholemeal salad roll with an apple and a pear and a glass of water will ensure your breath is crisp and clear at 2pm.
Salad rolls can be very tasty, try using whole grain organic bread, sweet potato, avocado, pesto, salad greens, flavoured olive oil and carrot. yummy!!

Breath friendly food

Brush your teeth with a normal toothbrush can usually miss a lot of places where you can’t reach. That’s when the inbetween brushes come in handy. To see our products, come visit here.

How to get rid of Morning Breath.

Morning breath affects us all at some point.
Why is it that the breath develops overnight and can be sharp and nasty when we wake up.

There are many reasons for this common problem and generally, morning breath is caused by a lack of moisture in the mouth. This can be caused by snoring, sleeping with the mouth open, not enough water in our diet, too much coffee, or very dry air caused by air conditioning. A dry mouth allows anaerobic  bacteria to multiply and over time the bacteria will discharge what is known as Volatile Sulphur Compounds (VSC’s) which will produce the odour in the morning.

Using PREFRESH Mouthwash regime before going to bed will rid you of morning breath and here are some additional tips to help you.

Do not eat cheese in the evening. Cheese contains all the ingredients for bad breath, i.e bacteria, proteins and dairy products.

Do not over indulge in coffee during the day. Coffee is high in acid and acid plays a crucial part in contributing to bad breath. You may notice a coffee breath on people from time to time. It is caused by the acid in the coffee and a terribly unbalanced PH level in their body.

When brushing your teeth before retiring, also brush your tongue back and forward throughly and then rinse with fresh water. Repeat this process twice. This will remove most of the bacteria, decimated skin cells, residues and give you a better breath in the morning. Do this before taking PREFRESH Mouthwash.

Always floss at every brushing using dental ribbon instead of floss as it is wider, and can rid the mouth of more waste then dental floss and of course us PREFRESH Toothpowder and Mouthwash which will kill bacteria for up to 8 hours ensuring you can wake with fresh breath.

Why do people who use supermarket mouthwash run the highest risk of having bad breath?

Most supermarket mouthwashes contain alcohol which is used to kill the anaerobic  bacteria . Alcohol will kill bacteria however alcohol will also dry the  mouth substantially meaning the anaerobic  bacteria (who love a dry mouth) will start to emerge, reproduce and then thrive. You see bacteria exude very nasty smelling chemicals known as VSC (Volatile Sulphur Compounds). The bacteria love our tongues as there is no oxygen in the many crevices and little caves that exist there. They can reproduce and live happily ever after. It’s the bacteria residues in the tongue that put out the foul odour commonly referred to as bad breath. To get rid of these bacteria a product is required in the form of a mouthwash that does not contain alcohol or toxic chemicals.

Introducing PREFRESH Mouthwash. A 100% guaranteed product designed to eliminate bacteria and get rid of bad breath instantly and effectively. It does not dry the mouth out like other mouthwashes, in fact it increases the saliva flow and will give you fresh breath for up to 8 hours. Anaerobic  bacteria cannot survive in oxygen whch is found naturally in your saliva hence the reason a moist mouth is the best natural means of tackling bad breath. The drier your mouth the more bacteria with the resulting bad breath.
